So, the latest pregnancy symptom to appear is leg cramps! I have woken up throughout the night recently shouting a few ‘OWS!’ Poor Will gets shocked awake thinking i’m in labour! Not quite yet……..

Leg cramps in pregnancy are usually worse towards the end of pregnancy due to the position of the baby and are worse at night due to inactivity. Over the last week I have tried a couple of natural remedies which have really helped lessen the leg cramps and relieved the dull ache that was lingering around after the sharp, stabbing pains!

The first is a home made blend of pregnancy friendly essential oils to use in a foot bath of warm to hot water (not boiling). If you have a foot spa even better!

Geranium 5 drops

Lavender 10 drops

Cypress 2 drops

The second is a wonderful product from Night Delight Organics. The Repairing Muscle Balm is a soothing balm of Juniper, Mint and Ginger which alleviate muscle tension and spasms and boost circulation. It is really nice to massage into your calves in an upward direction, hopefully you can get someone else to do it for you!

A really good trick to relieve the muscle spasm when it’s happening is to hold your big toe pressing on the nail and applying a very firm pressure on both the front and the back of the toe (a pinching action).

A combination of all of these and your leg cramps should be soothed!
